"Take Me to Work"
"I don't feel like it"
"I don't feel like doing it"
"I don't feel like going to work"
"I don't feel like it, I am waiting to be inspired"
Do the words above often come to your mind??
"I don't feel" like it is a tragical common phrase for students and for people working in creative fields, and it's really something that limits your potential and that limits your productivity when you're trying to get things done.
You are not alone. You are not the only one who thinks "I don't feel like it" or "Please somebody take me to work!!". Almost every person thinks that way.
But, what you should really understand is that when you say it, when you think it, when you feel it, it doesn't change what you can do next. It does nothing to actually limit your decisions going forward. When you say "I don't feel like it", you're simply giving yourself an excuse not to do the work that you know you need to do. It doesn't actually prevent you from opening your laptop and typing a paper. It doesn't actually prevent you from opening a book and studying for a while. It just lets you give yourself an excuse to not do those things. The writer James Clear said that the difference between professionals and amateurs are that "amateurs wait until they feel inspired to do creative work. Professionals do it on a strict schedule". If you look at a lot of other famous writers and creatives, they stick to strict schedules and do the same amount of work every day.
You may be a student or a working professional. Whether "you don't feel like it" or you get the feeling "Take me to work", none of it matters. What matters is having that mental grit, that mental toughness to say that it doesn't matter how I feel, it doesn't if I don't feel like studying or going to work, I am still going to do it or at least I am going to start. When you start doing this on a daily basis, progress is made. You separate yourself as a professional from the amateurs. This progress would never be possible if you just let the words "Take me to work or I don't feel it" dictate your actions and ultimately your life.
You might say "It's easier said than done". I agree. Totally. But, here is what you can do to tackle this whole situation. You have got a lot of work do, you have deadlines and assignments, and in the middle of all this suddenly you stop feeling inspired or don't feel like working. What should you do???
Try creating imperfect work. A lot of writers swear by the concept of creating shitty first drafts, just sitting down and writing whatever comes to mind no matter it is. Weightlifters are the same. They go the gym and work out every day even if they feel like they're not going to put up good numbers that day. Even when you are not having the best of days, just make an attempt. When you don't feel the enthusiasm, don't try to do everything in one session, be it work or studying, but at least start even if it's very little. You don't need to finish everything in one session. Imperfect work is much better than no work at all.
If you still don't feel like it, then memorize the following quotes:
No one is going to push you except yourself.
You will never always be motivated. You have to learn to be disciplined.
__ It's not about perfect. It's about effort. And when you bring that effort every single day, that's where transformation happens. That's how change occurs__
Nothing will work unless you do.
Sure, there are all sorts of techniques and tricks we can use but when it comes down to it, it's grit. It's having the mental toughness to say it doesn't matter if I don't feel like it. I'm going to get this done or I'm at least going to start.
Work hard. Stop saying "I don' feel like working". Even if you don't feel like it, just do it. Be it imperfect or just a little part of the whole. Doing is more important than finishing. At last, I would like to add an amazing video, that's gonna really inspire you and help you throw out the words "I don't feel like it from your dictionary".
